Review of
coaching evaluation sheet
Introduction:
In the
beginning of week 4 I handed out a coaching evaluation sheet (Bouch, Duffell,
Madams, Mash, Caillet, McMahon and Tupla 2004). The aim of this evaluation
sheet was to get some quality feedback from my team, I wanted them to identify
both my good and bad practises. I would then take this away and hopefully
improve my coaching skills. I chose this evaluation sheet based on the
questions involved, this form immediately identified areas I based on my
Personal Development Plan (PDP) such as communication, lesson prep and
implement an effective program but this evaluation form also identified areas
that I have not thought of such as getting my team to develop a PDP and getting
them to use a reflective log to increase their learning. Therefore, this
evaluation form seemed to tick all the boxes.
Evaluation
calculations:
In order
for me to work out the average grade per question, I added all the scores
together and divided by 19 (number of returned forms).
For
example: Question 1 15 x 5 = 75
4 x 4 = 16
75 + 16 = 91
91 / 19 = 4.78 (If over 0.5 I would round up)
Final grade = 5

Review of
evaluation sheet:
This
evaluation sheet gave me a very good idea of what the athletes thought of me as
a coach, my training theories and application. If I am honest I was pleasantly surprised
at the positive feedback that came from this questionnaire. Some of my aims
prior to attending this work placement were to implemented an effective training
program, to improve my technical application and to be an effective
communicator and based on the feedback given I have scored the highest marks in
such areas. This was reassuring to know that what I am doing is being seen in
'good light' by others and especially after I have had to make so many changes
to the PT program itself. Some parts of the questionnaire scored only a 1
(lowest mark), after a reviewing the topics they covered the same area and that
was in relation to me (the coach) getting the athlete to reflect and develop
their own practice. This is a good idea as reflective practice is an excellent
way to retain information, being able to critically examine your own practices
and identify improvements is essential in self-development (sports UK).
My action
plan:
I am
going to implement a self-evaluation sheet for the team to complete, I want
them to see if my work placement has helped them and what their intentions are
when I leave.
